These shots were from the closing scenes of the play where the villagers are forced to pack up and leave, and where Tevye and Golde find their little family being scattered to the wind.In the meantime, I was having my own little drama --watching with growing anxiety as my dying 2 hour camera battery reached towards its own finale. I knew how many moments on-stage were left to go, how much longer my camera would manage to stay alive ... and that my re-charger had been oh-so-conveniently left behind at home!
Fortunately, the play ended at the same second that my warning light began flashing. I took the final shots.. and started breathing again. The villagers morphed back into modern-day kids dancing and singing in celebration of a great dress rehearsal, and I used up the rest of the battery to capture those moments. When my camera finally shut down and refused to come alive again, I tucked it away. There would be no more photographs that day.
But I'd already reaped a bonanza. All in all I had gotten 4 floppy disks full of some absolutely fabulous shots -- about 80 photos altogether. The light had been challenging but do-able, and I can't tell you how happy I was when I saw how beautifully they came out!
