Fiddler on the Roof

While some scenes are custom-made for the camera, others are best seen in the glory of an open stage. In other words -- when only two characters are on stage and standing wa-a-a-a-ay apart from one another .... well, you get my drift! Ya just can't get a decent shot!

The photograph of Motel and Tzeitel was priceless, and I just wish you could hear the gossiping villagers all chattering about the mix-up in the match. Too funny!

I was all ready for the dream sequence when the technicians turned down the stage lights -- too far even for my camera's digital eyes. So those shots are a bit grainy ... or "haunting" if you will. I missed the whole wedding scene (I was called out of the room by someone who needed computer help) but got back when Act 2 opened with Tevye #2 taking center stage. So if you notice that he looks different -- it's not your eyes!

Scene Eight: "Wonder of Wonder" and Dream Sequence

A joyful Motel singing "Wonder of wonders,
miracles of miracles.
God took a Daniel by the hand.
Stood by his side
and miracles of miracles --
walked him through the lion's den!
When Moses softened Pharoah's heart --
that was a miracle, too.
But of all God's miracles large and small,
the most miraculous one of all,
was the one I thought would never be ...
God has given you--- to me!"

Gossiping villagers Villager: "I heard Golde's grandmother
came to Tevye from the grave
and told him
Tzeitel should marry Motel."

Yenta: "What grandmother?
My grandfather came to ME
from the grave
and told me that HER grandmother
was a big liar!!"

The Dream Sequence - Grandma Tzeitel "No! No! No!
I mean the tailor, Tevye!
My great-grandchild
-- my little Tzeitel
that you named for me,
Motel's bride was meant to be!"
Dream Sequence - Fruma Sarah "TEVYE!!!
What's this about your daughter
marrying my husband!"
"Would you do this to your
friend and neighbor Fruma Sarah?!"
"Have you no consideration
for a woman's feelings?!"
"Handing over my belongings
to a total stranger!"
Dream Sequence - Fruma Sarah "How can you let your daughter
take my place
Live in my house, carry my keys..
Wear my clothes... pearls..
HOW!"

(Chorus: house!...keys!
clothes!...pearls!... HOW!)

Act 2

Scene One: "Do You Love Me

Perchik and Hodel announce their engagement Perchik: "You must congratulate me."
Tevye: "Congratulations! .... for what?"
Perchik: "We're engaged!"
Tevye: "Engaged?"
Hodel: "Yes, Papa. We're engaged"
Tevye: "No, you're not.
(he separates the two)
I know ... you like HIM and he likes YOU,
but you're (to Perchik) going away,
and you're (to Hodel) staying here,
so...have a nice trip Perchik!"
Tevye asks Golde if she loves him "Golde...do you love me?"
"Do I what?!"
"Do you love me?"
"Do I love you?
(Golde beings to sing)

For 25 years I've washed your clothes
Cooked your meals, cleaned your house
given you children, milked the cow.
After 25 years
why talk about love right now..."
