This scene was probably the most fun to watch... but a real challenge to photograph! The movement and dancing was so fast and so energetic that my poor camera was racing to keep up with recording the photos in a rapid succession. (Unlike a regular camera, a digital can't just click away. It has to record the image on a floppy -- just like your home computer -- before it can record another image. Takes about 3 seconds per photo... usually pretty quick (and you get to see the photo immediately) -- but in this case it was agonizingly slow!)

In the middle of the Russians and villagers dancing I accidentally hit a button which turned on the flash and being too far away from the action (so I could get in the entire cast dancing onstage) made the photos too dark! Argggh!!! I was frantically trying to keep photographing and fighting with the camera at the same time to figure out how to turn the stupid flash off. (The on-screen options are straight icons -- and I didn't have my instruction book with me.) Right after the scene finished I figured out what I'd done wrong and put the camera back into "available light" mode." Won't ever make that mistake again!!

Still... it was terrific to get these actors just having a blast with this dance scene ...and those dark photographs brightened up quite nicely with a little help from my computer graphics programs!

(P.S. -- As my son tells me .. this song is mostly "dye-dyes" so I'll let you just remember the lines yourselves!)
